The Shattered campaign is an anti-knife crime initiative by Derbyshire Constabulary, addressing and preventing knife crime among young people. The campaign highlights how lives are shattered by the effects of knife crime and highlights how far reaching the impact of this type of crime can be.
To ensure this message reached as many people as possible, Derbyshire Constabulary decided to think outside the billboard — and take their message on the road.
By transforming their own fleet vehicles into moving billboards, the Constabulary saw an opportunity to maximise visibility and impact. The team identified three Toyota Corollas and a Vauxhall Astra already in use within their fleet, each featuring standard reflective and fluorescent safety markings.
With some creative thinking, these vehicles were given a new purpose. Once the existing safety markings were carefully removed, the cars were fully wrapped in striking, branded campaign designs, before new safety markings were reapplied — combining standout visual impact with essential on-road safety.
Existing safety markings and stripping the markings from the vehicles
Once the vehicles arrived at our facility, they were securely stored in our dedicated fleet suite — a controlled environment designed specifically for specialist vehicle work. From there, our team began the meticulous process of removing the existing reflective and fluorescent markings.
Using a combination of heat guns, surface cleaners, and professional adhesive removers, each vehicle was carefully stripped and cleaned. This stage is far more than a cosmetic step — it’s essential to the long-term success of any vehicle livery.
A spotless surface ensures the new wrap and safety markings adhere perfectly. Even the smallest trace of grease or dirt can compromise adhesion, leading to premature lifting or failure of the graphics over time. By taking the time to prepare each surface thoroughly, we lay the foundation for a durable, high-quality finish that performs as well as it looks.

Wrapping Toyota Corolla and Vauxhall Astra vehicles with Shattered knife crime campaign graphics
With the vehicles stripped and completely clean, fitting of the wrap could begin. The wrap was printed using Avery Dennison MPI 1105 Easy Apply – a product which allows for fantastic image quality, plus fantastic conformability around all of the indents, bumps and recesses within the bodywork of the vehicle. It had also been laminated using Avery Dennison Dol 1460 lamination film in order to provide complete protection for these hard-working vehicles.
Some parts of the Police vehicle livery also incorporated window vision. This brilliant product allows for the design to be continued across window space. From the outside, the perforated film provides a level of privacy and security, without compromising safety or functionality on the road.

Blue/yellow battenburg markings were applied to the sides of the vehicle and orange/yellow markings to the rear. Police text was also added and Constabulary crests included on the sides.
The Emergency Service Avery V-8000 markings are covered by the full Avery Dennison warranty, thanks to the Approved Converted and Approved Fitter certifications gained by Fleet ID. Click here for more information about our certifications.

Fitting was completed in one week, with all four vehicles finished and road ready for Derbyshire Constabulary to drive away. The new vehicles look fantastic and will drive awareness wherever the vehicles go — spreading an important message across the community every single day.
